NCCPA's Commitment to Diversity and Social Justice
NCCPA has a strong commitment to diversity and social justice. NCCPA strives to provide model programs and services regarding diversity and social justice in the student affairs profession. NCCPA recently became the first ACPA state organization to move from an affirmative action statement to a non-discrimination policy, which has allowed for the organization to look beyond race to think deeply about providing premier diversity and social justice programming and services to all members no matter their background. In February 2008, NCCPA held a Social Justice Conference for its members to learn more about the concept and the role of social justice in higher education. The organization has the goal of establishing the following programs and services during the 2008-2009 academic year:
North Carolina Diversity and Social Justice Network in Higher Education
To support communication and sharing of information among members regarding diversity and social justice, NCCPA is working on creating an updated Diversity and Social Justice Network. This network will provide a contact list of professionals with a specialty in diversity and social justice in Higher Education/Student Affairs in the state of North Carolina. The purpose of the Diversity and Social Justice Network is to provide members with a list of potential resources and speakers. Members are added to this contact list once per semester. Please check back soon for more information
Conferences and Professional Organizations
As a student affairs professional, it is important to stay updated on current topics and issues regarding diversity and social justice. Please check back for more information on these conferences and professional organizations.
