PRESIDENT'S FORUM 2008:
Impact: Making Ripples is a drive-in conference, sponsored by NCCPA and Wingate University, to offer educators insight into understanding the potential they have to impact issues of social justice. Often topics of social justice can be overwhelming; however, each person has the power to affect change on a small level that will grow into something more substantial. This drive-in conference strives to offer insight into ways educators can help students seek opportunities to enhance equality. The keynote speaker Vernon A. Wall is both dynamic and inspiring. Vernon will be discussing “The 10 Myths of Social Justice”. The term “social justice” is being used (and misused) on college and university campuses more and more these days. What exactly is social justice? What is a socially just community? What are the characteristics of a campus community committed to social justice? In this address, the 10 myths of social justice will be shared as well as an assessment that can be used to measure your campus’ commitment to inclusion, equity and social justice. Vernon Wall will address the participations over lunch and share his 20+ years of experiences in student affairs. He is nationally known speaker on social justice and is a founder and facilitator of the Social Justice Training Institute through ACPA. He has also served as a trainer for the Martin Luther King Center for Non-Violent Social Change in Atlanta, GA.
Tentative Schedule
All events will be held in the LaVerne Banquet Hall and the Dickson-Palmer Student Center on the campus of Wingate University. “Injustice
anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.”
